Inter-Korean Military Talks End with Little Progress

Military officials from South and North Korea met Thursday for the first inter-Korean military talks in eight months, but failed to narrow differences.

At the talks, held at the truce village of Panmunjeom on the inter-Korean border, North Korean officials demanded that Seoul apologize for South Korean civic groups' dissemination of propaganda leaflets. They threatened to not allow South Koreans to cross the military demarcation line, stay in Gaeseong, or visit the Mount Geumgang resort.

South Korean officials demanded that Pyongyang stop condemning President Lee Myung-bak, launch a fact-finding probe into the shooting death of a South Korean tourist at Mount Geumgang, and guarantee the personal safety of South Korean tourists.

In addition, they urged the North to take measures to make it easier for South Korean businesspeople to enter the Gaesong Industrial Complex.
