RFA: US to Send 5th Batch of Food Aid to NK

Radio Free Asia says some 25-thousand tons of food aid from the United States will arrive in North Korea on November 18th.

Quoting a source Friday, the report said the U.S. ship Mary Ann Hudson will depart next Thursday from Norfolk, Virginia carrying 20-thousand tons of corn and five-thousand tons of beans.

The source said the United States apparently decided to send the food aid despite the North’s moves to reactive its key nuclear reactor as Washington has on numerous occasions said the North’s nuclear issue and humanitarian issue are two separate matters.

The U.S. had sent 37-thousand tons of food aid in late June, 24-thousand tons in early August, 42-thousand tons in mid-August, and 24-thousand tons in early September.

The report said that the Food and Agriculture Organization plans to inspect the North’s fall harvest as early as next week.
