Gov’t to Crack Down on Expensive Cram Schools

The government will crack down on cram schools that charge unreasonably expensive fees.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, together with city and provincial education offices, will inspect cram schools from this October to February next year.

The ministry will crack down on cram schools that collect fees in violation of regulations and engage in false or puffery advertising. Violators will face fines, business suspension or business license cancellation.

The ministry will also come up with measures to lessen the burden of cram school fees for parents later this month after discussing the issue with the Justice Ministry, Fair Trade Commission, National Tax Service, National Police Agency and Korea Consumer Agency.
