An association of South Korean firms doing business in North Korea’s Gaeseong Industrial Complex has welcomed the U.S. move to take Pyongyang off its terrorism blacklist.
The association said in a statement Monday that the firms operating in Gaeseong hail the U.S. move, adding that it will bring North Korea into the international community. The statement said that the association hopes the recent U.S. measure will provide an opportunity for the Gaeseong industrial park to reap significant benefits.
The association said the North’s delisting is expected to lead to a rise in orders from foreign buyers who once shunned making orders due to political risks in the communist state.
The association added that the North’s removal from the terrorism list is also expected to facilitate the entry and exit of various high-tech parts and result in the active production of high-tech parts and electronic products in Gaeseong.
