Seoul Uncertain about NK Leader’s Public Appearance

The South Korean government says it could not confirm U.S. broadcaster ABC’s report that North Korean leader Kim Jong-il made a public appearance for the first time in two months.

A Unification Ministry official said that the North Korean leaders’ public appearance has not been confirmed and that no North Korean broadcasts have shown any recent images of Kim.

The U.S. network provided a video image to back its Tuesday report about Kim’s appearance.

North Korean news outlets reported on October fifth that Kim watched a soccer game. Six days later, they revealed 12 pictures of Kim allegedly visiting military units. Some South Korean experts on North Korea believe that the pictures were not taken recently.
