China marked the launch of Korean-style code division multiple access (CDMA) mobile services in a commemorative ceremony in Beijing Tuesday. The ceremony declared to the world that China officially adopted South Korea's mobile communications methods.Drawing public interest is the three years of "sales diplomacy" by President Kim Dae-jung who took a decisive role in persuading Beijing to adopt Korea's CDMA methods. Kim called on Chinese leaders to allow Samsung Electronics Co. and other South Korean mobile service operators to make inroads into the Chinese market in separate talks with Chinese President Jiang Zemin and Premier Zhu Rongji during his November 1998 visit to China and Zhu's October 2000 trip to Seoul.
