The government plans to wrap up the privatization of five state-run corporations by the end of this year. The five corporations are Korea Telecom, Korea Electric Power Corporation, Korea Gas Corporation, Korea District Heating Corporation and Korea Tobacco and Ginseng Corporation. The government plans to sell its 28 percent stake in Korea Telecom to domestic firms and the public during the first half of this year. The Korea Electric Power Corporation plans to divide its power generation unit into six subsidiaries and put five thermal power generation facilities on an auction block.
