The country's first trade expo linking universities and corporations opened in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province on Thursday.

At the expo, 47 universities across the country displayed about five-thousand newly patented technologies and students' inventions to woo buyers from some 700 companies.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said that it aims to arrange 20 cases of university-to-company technology transfers and five joint research contracts to generate about two billion won in profits for the universities.

The ministry expects the event to strengthen cooperation between universities and corporations.
