New WFP P'yang Office Chief Appointed

The U.N. World Food Program has appointed a new director for North Korea.

The North’s official news agency, KCNA, said Torben Due presented his credentials to the North's foreign ministry on Monday.

The report said the Denmark native also held talks with Foreign Minister Pak Eui-chun.

Following the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq, Due, then as chief of the Baghdad office, commanded the U.N. agency's largest relief operation ever and directed the provision of food aid to 27 million Iraqis.

Until recently, he served as a program administrator at the WFP headquarters in Rome working in international planning and food distribution.
