NK Closes All Direct Phone Links at Panmunjeom

North Korea has announced that it is closing all direct telephone links with South Korea at the truce village of Panmunjeom.

In a statement Wednesday, the North’s Red Cross Society said it will close its liaison office at Panmunjeom and withdraw the office’s entire staff.

The statement also criticized South Korea for co-sponsoring a U.N. resolution condemning the North’s human rights conditions. The statement said the move was a confrontational provocation to the North’s dignity and system as well as a violation of key inter-Korean agreements.
