Gov’t to Resume Funding for NK Aid

The government will resume funding for civic groups that provide humanitarian aid to North Korea.

A government official said on Friday that it will provide a consortium of civic groups with around one-billion won from its South-North Cooperation Fund.

The aid was suspended after a South Korean was shot to death in July by a North Korean solider during a tour to the Mount Geumgang resort in the North.

Unification Ministry spokesman Kim Ho-nyoun said the minister will be making a final decision after the government finishes collecting views from related groups.

The ministry is reviewing about seven projects promoted by civic groups and will make its selection by early next week at the earliest.
