A U.S. travel Web site has selected South Korea as one of the top 29 places in the world to visit.

The New York office of the Korea Tourism Organization said Thursday that Sherman Travel's Web site selected South Korea as one of the top travel destinations in Asia and the Middle East.

The travel site based its selection on the fact that brand-name electronics and designer fashion products can be purchased at low prices in South Korea, as the value of the Korean won has dropped more than 30 percent from a year ago.

The site also said Seoul has many sights to see, including magnificent shopping malls, royal palaces, traditional tea houses and temples.

The site also said travelers can learn about Korea's five-thousand-year-old history by taking a trip to Gyeongju.
