NHK: S. Korea, Japan FTA Talks to Resume in Dec

South Korea and Japan have reportedly agreed to resume next month negotiations on the adoption of a free trade agreement (FTA).

Japanese broadcaster NHK said Friday that Korean Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan and Japanese counterpart Hirofumi Nakasone reached the agreement in Lima Thursday. The two officials are in Peru attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Ministerial Meeting.

NHK added that the two ministers agreed to swiftly reopen the trade talks based on the need to solidify bilateral economic cooperation.

Free trade talks between the two nations have been stalled since July after South Korea raised issue with Japan’s renewed territorial claims over the Dokdo islets in a teaching manual.
