The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has announced its plan to have Korea's cultural contents industry rank in the world's top five.

Under its plan dubbed “the killer-contents development strategy,” the ministry will inject a total of 410 billion won into the industry over the next five years.

By sector, 50 billion won will go into cartoons, 100 billion won into animations and 60 billion won into the character industry. The rest of the near 200 billion won will go into nurturing talents in the industry.

Moreover, the government will hold a public competition every year and will select three or four “killer contents” which will be developed into global strategic products by 2013.

The ministry expects the plan will generate seven-trillion won in sales and ten-thousand new jobs.
