NK Demands South Korea Halve its Staff at Geumgang

North Korea has demanded a reduction in South Korean staff at its Mount Geumgang resort.

Unification Ministry spokesman Kim Ho-nyoun told reporters that Pyongyang notified South Korean tour operator Hyundai Asan that it must cut its staff numbers at the resort to 100 and its vehicles to 150.

Following the shooting death of a South Korean tourist at the resort in July, the North expelled what it called “unnecessary” South Korean resident workers and limited the number of resident staff to 200.

On Monday, Pyongyang announced its decision to halt cross-border tours and train services and reduce South Korean resident staff at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex starting next month.

The spokesman added that Hyundai Asan will operate tours to Gaeseong until Friday.
