Beginning Monday, a maximum of 880 South Korean workers will be allowed to stay at North Korea’s Gaeseong Industrial Complex.

A South Korean official said Monday that officials of the North’s industrial park management committee notified Seoul Sunday night that 880 South Korean workers will be allowed to remain in the complex. The number is only half the amount the South initially expected.

The North’s recent move is likely to deal a significant blow to South Korean firms operating in the industrial park.

The North also said that only 27 South Koreans of the South’s industrial park management committee will be allowed to stay. Initially, the North had said it would allow 37 of the 53 officials to remain.
