The Ministry of National Defense and Unites States Forces Korea (USFK) have reconfirmed the policy of relocating Yongsan base in central Seoul. According to an informed source, both sides are reportedly considering the site of the Korean Special Warfare Command Force in southern Seoul as a candidate site for the new US army base. The source said the two sides would make final decision by June. It added that the controversial apartment construction project on Yongsan base would be carried out as planned as the relocation project would take substantial time. The source said the agreement was made following President Kim Dae-jung's order Thursday to review the entire USFK headquarters relocation plan from the beginning.
