The government will promote the creation of an area for inter-Korean exchanges near the Demilitarized Zone in an effort to bring peace to the Korean Peninsula.

The Ministry of Public Administration and Security is said to have asked the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements to study the feasibility of creating the region.

The establishment of the so-called “City of Peace” is in line with the government’s policy for the balanced development of the nation.

The ministry will diagnose the current situation of the DMZ area and conditions for development through the study.

The envisioned city will serve as a role model for developing special regions dedicated to inter-Korean exchanges.
