Korean Dictionary Panel to Propose Stay in N. Korea

Members of a South Korean committee for compiling a "grand dictionary" of the Korean language are seeking to stay in North Korea for one or two months amid strained inter-Korean relations.

The committee said Tuesday that it will formally propose to the North that its members and working-level officials stay in Pyongyang for a month or two every quarter to work on the dictionary project.

The commitee also said that 24 of its members, including its chairman, Kwon Jae-il, will visit Pyongyang for four days from Saturday for a meeting with their North Korean counterparts for the project.

The dictionary committees of the two Koreas held compilation meetings in the North Korean city of Gaeseong in February and October, and one in Beijing in May.
