Kayang Bridge opened for traffic Wednesday, spanning the Han River between Kayang-dong in Kangso-gu to the south and Sangam-dong in Mapo-gu to the north. City officials said the new bridge will allow residents in the Kimpo and Kanghwa areas better access to downtown Seoul and ease usually heavy traffic on nearby Songsan Bridge. Both ends of the 1,603 meter-long bridge are linked to highway interchanges, allowing drivers to quickly reach Incheon International Airport and Seoul's Yoido and Kangnam districts. A five-lane road surrounding Sangam-dong and a 1,100 meter section of road connecting the northern tip of the new bridge to Sangam Bridge No. 1 also opened to traffic Wednesday. Remaining sections will open in late April. A city official said Kayang Bridge will serve as a major gateway to the main World Cup Stadium in Sangam-dong and to the planned Sangam New City.
