Watchdog to Encourage Telecom Firms to Increase Investment

The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) said Friday that it will encourage domestic telecommunication companies to invest about seven trillion won next year, up three-point-six percent form 2008.

In a report to President Lee Myung-bak, the commission said that the companies will be encouraged to invest 56 percent of the amount in the first half to help prevent some nine-thousand suppliers from going bankrupt and ensure job security for 350-thousand workers in the sector.

In addition, the KCC plans to help individuals develop mobile telecommunication contents and set up markets where they can be sold directly to consumers, thereby creating some two-thousand jobs.
