In a bid to foster the celebratory spirit, a variety of events are being planned for the eve of the World Cup's opening ceremony this summer. The Korean World Cup Organizing Committee (KOWOC) unveiled a plan Monday detailing an assortment of events to be held along the Han River and throughout Seoul. The series of festivities will start with a "boat of hope," which leaves dock on the Han River at Chamshil, southeastern Seoul, at 1 p.m. May 30th, the eve of the May 31st through June 30th tournament. As the boat sails to a riverside park in the northeast of Seoul near the Sang Am World Cup Stadium, various festivals will come to life featuring events centered on folk culture from around the world in Dduksom, Yoido and other places along the boat's route. When the boat reaches "Nanji Han River Park," the main event will be held at the Park of Peace in front of Sang Am World Cup stadium, where the World Cup will open the following day. The event will begin with 240 children from around the world appearing on stage with a 2002-member choir in full voice.
