The president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea has some advice for Korean business firms. Jeffrey Jones said Korean firms need to develop their own brand names, which will bring them more profits. He cited as an example Samsung Electronics' mobile phones which are sold in the United States under the brands of Sprint and AT&T ... the telecommunication companies that import them. Jones said Samsung could increase profits from the sale of its phones if they were sold under its own brand name. The AMCHAM president was a guest speaker at a breakfast meeting of Korean business people held in Seoul Thursday. He pointed that plans to boost productivity may help Chinese companies spur growth but Korean firms should be taking cues from Japan's Sony to learn how to improve their brand names in foreign markets.
