CIA: Kim Remains in Power in NK

The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) says that North Korean leader Kim Jong-il remains in power.

The CIA revealed Monday a list of chiefs of state and Cabinet members of foreign governments on its Web site.

In the North Korean section, it said that Kim holds the North’s top three posts — General Secretary of the Korean Workers’ Party, the Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army and the Chairman of the National Defense Commission.

But Jang Song-thaek, the brother-in-law of Kim and the head of the North’s secret police, was not on the list. Jang was said to have been running the North during the North Korean leader's reported illness.

A senior U.S. official said it is difficult to confirm the health status of Kim, but that based on current intelligence, the “Dear Leader” seems to be in control.
