North Korea declared Friday that it has scrapped all political and military agreements with South Korea.

The North’s Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland said in a statement Friday that Pyongyang is nullifying all inter-Korean agreements that aim to resolve political and military confrontation as well as an accord on the western border. The statement said obligations agreed upon under the South-North accords have not been carried out, so there is no need for such agreements.

The committee, which handles cross-border issues, claimed tensions are running high on the Korean Peninsula due to what it called “imprudent, anti-North Korean policies sought by the South’s conservative forces."

The committee’s statement comes two weeks after the North's army threatened an "all-out confrontational posture" against Seoul.
