The government by 2012 plans to raise the speed of Internet service ten times.

The Korea Communication Commission on Sunday disclosed a plan to establish an ultra wideband two-way telecommunication system after a plenary session.

If the information superhighway completed, wire-connected Internet will provide service at a maximum speed of 1Gbps, while wireless Internet will provide service at a maximun speed of 10 Mbps.

Also by 2012, the commission plans to turn 60 percent of the nation’s fixed-line phone network to an Internet network.

The commission said it will combine the telecommunication network with broadcasting to establish an interactive telecommunication system.
