The Unification Ministry says it will request a police probe into civic groups who said they will send anti-communist leaflets and five-thousand-won North Korean bills to North Korea.
On Wednesday, ministry and police officials spoke with Choi Seong-yong, who heads a group representing families of abductees taken to North Korea, and Park Sang-hak, head of Fighters for a Free North Korea. Officials said if they proceed with the plan, they will be investigated on violating the inter-Korean exchange and cooperation law.
Park said the law doesn't apply to enclosing North Korean money in leaflet envelopes and that they will go on with distributing the leaflets.
On Monday, Choi and Park announced to reporters the plan to send the leaflets and money across the border around Febuary 16th, which is North Korean leader Kim Jong-il's birthday. They also showed the reporters 100 five-thousand-won North Korean bills they had in their possession.
