A snow replica of South Korea’s Sungnyemun city gate, which was destroyed in a fire last year, is being displayed at Japan’s Sapporo Snow Festival.

Measuring 15 meters in height, 27 meters in width, the snow replica of the South Korean gate is about four-fifths the size of the original.

South Korea’s Ambassador to Japan, Kwon Chul-hyun, said Thursday that he hopes the replica will provide an opportunity for Seoul and Tokyo to further develop friendly relations.

The city of Sapporo said some three million tourists from around the world are expected to check out the replica. The event will run through next Wednesday.
