Buddhist Order to Create Temple Food DB

The government will help the country's largest order to compile information on temple food into a database.

The Jogye sect says it will begin the project with an annual fund of 100 million won or 73 thousand U.S. dollars from the government over the next five years.

Jogye says a database is necessary as information on temple food until now has mostly been passed on through word of mouth or individual assessments.

The Buddhist sect will to analyze the history, nutrition, health effects and impact on Buddist disciplinary training of temple food in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province Busan and the Gyeongsang provinces and Gwangju and the Jeolla provinces.

The results will be published in a book.
