Vice FM to Attend UN Human Rights Session

Vice Foreign Minister Shin Kak-soo will attend the tenth session of the U.S. Human Rights Council opening March 2nd in Geneva.

The meeting will end March 27th.

Shin will outline Seoul's efforts to improve human rights and make a statement on human rights violations in North Korea.

A government source said that Seoul has not yet decided how strongly it will comment on North Korea's human rights.

He did predict, however, a tougher South Korean stance against the North’s human rights violations this year, given that it supported a U.N. resolution condemning them last year.

Other Seoul officials remain cautious, however, warning that taking a harder line and provoking the North are not necessary, as the South has already raised its voice against the North's human rights conditions.
