Nat'l Anthem Composer's Widow Dies in Spain

The wife of the late composer of the Korean national anthem, Ahn Eak-tai, died in Spain Tuesday. She was 94.

A family spokesman said Lolita Talavera died on the Spanish resort island of Majorca around 11 a.m. local time.

The Spanish native married Ahn in 1946 while he was conducting the Majorca Orchestra. She retained her Korean nationality even after Ahn died in 1965 at age 59.

She cherished her husband's native country. During the 2002 soccer World Cup held in South Korea and Japan, she said she was a Korean.

In 2005, she visited Korea and donated the copyright of the Korean anthem to the South Korean government.
