The South Korean government says it continues to have faith in a 1991 inter-Korean nonaggression accord and that it believes the agreement should be implemented.

On the 17th anniversary of the South-North Basic Agreement on Reconciliation, Nonaggression and Exchanges and Cooperation, Unification Ministry spokesman Kim Ho-nyoun urged North Korea to come back to the dialogue table to discuss pending bilateral issues.

On this date in 1991, the Koreas ratified the basic agreement, pledging not to invade each other and to work together towards reconciliation.
