NK Candidacy Registration for Elections Ends

Candidacy registration has reportedly ended for an election to choose the new members of the North Korean parliament.

The North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency says North Korean leader Kim Jong-il registered his candidacy for the Supreme People’s Assembly in the 333rd constituency. But the news agency did not elaborate on the list of candidates from other constituencies.

The election is considered a mere formality since only a single candidate is allowed to run from each constituency.

The election for the Supreme People’s Assembly, the North’s rubber-stamp parliament, will take place on Sunday.
