Firms Urge Normalization of Border Passage

An association of South Korean companies operating in the Gaeseong Industrial Complex is urging for the full normalization of cross-border travel.

In a statement issued Monday at the Gyeongeui Highway Transit Office, the association said the North’s border closure has blocked delivery of supplies and raw materials, threatening disruptions in their operations.

The statement said North Korea is required to guarantee free business activity for the South Korean firms in Gaeseong, citing an inter-Korean agreement that guarantees a 50-year lease of the facilities.

The association is made up of about 130 South Korean firms from the inter-Korean complex.
