NK 1.17 Mln Tons Short of Food

The government projects North Korea may be one-point-one million tons short of grain.

The Unification Ministry told reporters that North Korea is estimated to have produced four-point-three million tons last year, an amount similar to previous years, due to the absence of natural disasters.

The ministry added that food aid from international, relief organizations and China will relieve the North's food shortage, but that it will still need about half a million tons of food.
