A new survey finds that more than 80 percent of South Koreans believe continued military threats from North Korea will have a negative effect on South Korea’s economy.
According to the survey on some one-thousand adults nationwide, around 47 percent of respondents said they believe North Korea’s continued military threats will have a slight negative effect on South Korea’s economy, while nearly 37 percent said the threats will cause significant damage.
Fourteen percent said the North’s threats will most likely have no influence on the South’s economy, while less than one percent said the threats will not affect the nation’s economy at all.
Meanwhile, a little over 52 percent said Seoul should base their provision of humanitarian aid to the North on progress in inter-Korean relations, while nearly 30 percent said Seoul should provide the North with unconditional assistance.
The National Unification Advisory Council commissioned Seoul-based pollster Ace Research to conduct the two-day phone survey.
