Civic Groups to Resume Visits to N. Korea

Civic groups aiding North Korea are planning to visit the country starting Saturday as the joint military exercise “Key Resolve” between South Korea and the United States concluded on Friday.

Initially, many of the groups planned to visit during the military exercise. However, amid heightened tension between the two Koreas, the Unification Ministry urged them to refrain from visiting and Pyongyang also requested them to postpone their visit .

On Saturday alone, seven groups will visit the reclusive country.

Meanwhile, an official from the Unification Ministry said that, despite the shaky situation with the North’s Gaeseong industrial complex, the government has allowed the civic groups to visit the North but urged them to be mindful of the state of current inter-Korean relations.
