Seoul Confirms P'yang Launched Satellite

A government official has confirmed that a long-range rocket launched by North Korea carried a satellite.

The official said Sunday that the rocket was a space-launch vehicle, not a missile, citing its trajectory, but added that it is too early to call the launch a success.

The U.N. Security Council’s response will likely change since the projectile was a satellite, not a missile.

North Korea launched a rocket at 11:30 a.m., Sunday at a launch site at Musudan-ri near the North's northeast coast.
