The government has decided to grant permanent residence to long-term foreign residents who have stayed in Korea for more than five years. The Justice Ministry said at least 22-thousand foreigners ... most of them Chinese ... will benefit from the measure. Foreign students will also be allowed to have part-time jobs. The Justice Minister reported the revisions to alien registration regulations to President Kim Dae-jung Wednesday. The new regulations will take effect April first. The ministry also plans to set up a new bureau in charge of protecting foreign workers' human rights.
