Seoul City said Thursday that Seoul Park of Paris will open in a ceremony to be held on March 25 in the park in western Paris after construction work of 15 months. Attending the ceremony will be Seoul Mayor Goh Kon and officials from Seoul and Paris. Occupying an area of about 4,620 square meters, the Seoul Park is surrounded with an adobe wall, housing a bamboo wood, a traditional Korean bridge, a platform for enjoying a view of the moon and other places unique to Korea. Seoul provided the construction costs and Paris the site free of charge. Construction of the park started in late 2000 under an agreement reached between the two cities at a world metropolis meeting held in Barcelona, Spain, in March 1999. In 1986, Seoul Plaza was created in southwestern Paris and the Paris Park in southwestern Seoul to mark the centenary of establishing diplomatic relations between Korea and France.
