Gov't Reviewing NK Gaeseong Request

The government says it is carefully reviewing North Korea’s requests regarding the operation of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex.

The Unification Ministry says that once the review is complete, it will propose an inter-Korean meeting at an appropriate time.

The ministry said Thursday that it is collecting the opinions of related ministries, organizations and companies operating in the industrial park to prepare for the envisioned inter-Korean talks.

Meanwhile, ministry spokeswoman Lee Jong-joo said the North has given no indication as to when it plans to meet for a follow-up with the South.

In a Tuesday meeting at Gaeseong, North Korea asked South Korean companies operating in the complex to pay higher land usage fees and to increase the average wage for North Korean workers.
