NK Threatens to Conduct Nuclear & ICBM Test

North Korea says it will conduct nuclear and intercontinental ballistic missile tests if the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) does not immediately apologize for its condemnation of the North's recent rocket launch.

In a Wednesday statement, the North's Foreign Ministry said it will also start building a light-water reactor and develop technology to produce nuclear fuel, implying that it will begin its uranium enrichment program.

On April 14th, the U.N. Security Council adopted a presidential statement, condemning Pyongyang’s April fifth rocket launch and froze assets of three North Korean companies.

Pyongyang protested the move, calling it an “illegal provocation.” It claimed the decision to conduct a nuclear missile test is a self-defense measure against the U.N.’s hostile actions.

North Korea conducted its first nuclear test in 2006.
