Gov’t to Push for Formal Talks with NK

The government is planning to hold formal talks with North Korea to discuss a follow-up to last month’s brief meeting between the two sides.

A high-ranking government official said Friday that the meeting will be formal talks rather than a brief contact and may be held as early as next week.

North Korea identified the venue for the meeting and the list of representatives it will send to the talks in a Monday notice requesting a follow-up.

At the meeting, the Seoul plans to discuss the release of a South Korean worker detained at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex in the North since late March, and easing cross-border passage, communications and customs clearance.

The North plans to demand better conditions for North Korean workers at Gaeseong and an increase in rental fees for land use by South Korean companies operating in the business park.
