NK Warns of Deviation from Joint Accords

North Korea's ruling party gazette said Saturday that deviation from joint inter-Korean declarations will only result in confrontation or war.

A North Korean online portal (www.uriminzokkiri.com) quoted the Rodong Sinmun newspaper’s article titled "Deviation from declarations is unacceptable." The paper said the current state of cross border ties is a testament to the fact that diversion from the June 2000 and October 2007 joint agreements will obstruct inter-Korean ties, reconciliation and Korean unification.

The article also said that departing from the joint agreements is a dangerous and detrimental move, which could accelerate military tensions and risks of a nuclear war on the Korean Peninsula.

The paper urged all Koreans around the world to lobby for South Korea’s full implementation of the joint accords.

North Korea on Friday declared void all inter-Korean contracts on the joint industrial venture at Gaeseong, saying it will not offer benefits to South Korea because Seoul has not remained true to previous South-North declarations.
