Inter-Korean talks proposed for Monday have fallen through after North Korea failed to respond to South Korea’s request to meet on Monday.
The South Korean Unification Ministry said the North didn’t make any reply to Seoul’s proposal to hold a second round of talks to discuss operations at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex in the North.
Seoul proposed Friday that the meeting be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Gaeseong as a follow-up to last-month's brief inter-Korean meeting in the North’s border city.
Vice Unification Minister Hong Yang-ho will meet later in the day with South Korean companies operating in Gaeseong to collect their opinions about the North's most recent demands regarding operations at the business park. Based on the opinions collected, the government will decide how to deal with the North Korean demands.
Last week, Pyongyang nullified inter-Korean contracts regarding the operation of the joint industrial complex, saying it would revise the contracts, which the North says favored South Korean business owners.
Unification Minister Hyun In-taek told reporters Monday that Seoul will again propose a new inter-Korean meeting at an appropriate time.
