The government says it is not considering shutting down the inter-Korean Gaeseong Industrial Complex in North Korea despite calls by several lawmakers to do so.
Unification Ministry spokesman Kim Ho-nyoun made the remark during a briefing on Wednesday, saying that the government is making efforts to bring stable development to the industrial park.
Kim also emphasized that calls to deal with the issue of a detained South Korean worker in North Korea separately from the operations issues at the complex are not appropriate.
He added that the government has not received any response from the North despite efforts to hold working-level talks in Gaeseong.
Ruling Grand National Party (GNP) lawmaker Chung Mong-joon said during an executive committee meeting of the party Wednesday that the government should pull South Korean workers out of the complex.
And head of the minor opposition Liberty Forward Party Lee Hoi-chang said Tuesday that the government should prepare to shut down the complex.
