Gwangju City has been chosen to host the 2015 Summer Universiades.

The International University Sports Federation (FISU) made the selection at a meeting of its executive committee held in Brussels Saturday, local time.

The southwestern city lost its bid last year to host the international sports event.

Gwangju will be South Korea’s third city to host the Universiades.
Muju in North Jeolla Province hosted the 1997 winter event and the southeastern city Daegu hosted the 2003 summer gathering.

Gwangju won 397 out of 410 points in 53 categories, defeating rivals like Edmonton of Canada and Taiwan’s Taipei City.
