Gov't to Restrict NK Visits from Tuesday

The government will temporarily prohibit South Koreans from visiting North Korea in the wake of Pyongyang’s second nuclear test.

The Unification Ministry said that starting Tuesday, South Korean citizens will not be allowed to visit North Korea for trade or cooperative projects.

However, the ministry added that South Koreans employed at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex and the Mount Geumgang resort will be permitted to travel to the North in line with Seoul’s policy to continue inter-Korean projects at Gaeseong.

The ministry plans to urge South Korean firms in Gaeseong to voluntarily minimize their employees’ visits to the communist state due to safety concerns.
