The number of cars travelling on highways daily reached an average 3.28 million last year, up 14.3 percent from the preceding year.
The ministry also said around 1.2 billion cars travelled on highways across the country last year.
The ministry attributed the increase to the opening of five new highways, including the West Coast Highway, and a rise in the number of travellers triggered by improved economic conditions last year.
