NK Warns of Response to UNSC Sanctions

North Korea says it is prepared to pursue self-defense countermeasures in response to the U.N. Security Council’s discussions of sanctions on the North for its second nuclear test last Monday.

North Korea’s foreign ministry spokesman said Friday that the North believes self-defense measures are inevitable if the council continues to seek so-called provocations.

The spokesman also indirectly called out China and Russia by saying that there are countries involved in the sanction discussions that once called a satellite launch for peaceful purposes a country’s independent right, but that now, these same countries are condemning the launch.

The North said it would remain open to an apology by the Security Council, adding that Pyongyang would not recognize the council’s resolutions and decisions until the U.N. meets all of the North’s demands.
